A half hour after catching my first walleye, I reeled in this guy. He measured at 17″, this eye was fighting hard and not giving up. I still got him in and was very happy! I ended up with 3 walleye that night!

Another smally brought in on the Zara Spook!

Your Catches: Nice Topwater Smallmouth

Another smally brought in on the Zara Spook!

The wather was stable around 80 degrees, so I figured I would try some topwater with the zara spook. I witnessed a few wakes which were a bit too far to cast out to. I launched my lure and was able to reach exactly where I was aiming for. Slow twitches and steady walking the dog did the trick. He put up a good fight while jumping out of the water at least 6 to 8 times.

I observed fish surfacing by some cement blocks and brush cover, I decided to move closer and cast towards them using topwater. On my first retrieve I got a nice strike, but couldn’t set the hook. I cast again toward the same spot, I got another strike but this time I got him. I pulled this smallie out, not too bad of a fight.

Your Catches: Caughdenoy Dam Smallie on “The Burner”

This smallie was fooled when it struck my Strike King Burner Spinner Bait in the 1/2oz. He put up a good fight though!

This Oneida River smallmouth was caught using the Jackall Flick-shake in pumpkin pepper. It was caught in very windy conditions next to the Caughdenoy Dam near dusk on the Oneida River. I was paired with a Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier Spinning rod & reel using 8lb Trilene XL for fishing line.

So we decided to start targeting walleye. After a short walk to where they tend to hang out, I decided to put on a Rapala original minnow in perch color. On the first cast, I started reeling and felt my line pull. I set the hook and start fighting, I got him in and it was an 18″ walleye. Gave me quite a fight, my first walleye of the year.
