Your Catches: Huge Walleye on 10″ Lure
Rate This Catch:
I was out for the opening walleye weekend and had a great time with my 2 brothers. On a Sunday at 2pm while running a planer board with a 900 series reef runner in purple descent, I saw the mark on the fish finder and within 2 minutes my board was shooting to the middle of the boat quite quickly. I knew it was a good fish. I had my brother throw the boat in reverse as the weight from the board and fish were making me nervous. After catching up on the fish, it came in quite easily and my brother did a great net job. 10″ lures work great for huge walleye! run them nice and slow at around 1.8-2.0 mph and play around till you find the right speed then dial this in time in and time out. Consistency is key and I suggest to anyone that loves trolling for to go get a line counter reel and a good 9-10′ trolling rod, along with a set of left/right planer boards. Learn how to mark fish at certain depths, then mimmick the forage, such as perch/shad/shiners. Never leave feeding fish, just keep passing back and forth, especially with walleye, they like to penetrate an area in numbers. My brother caught a fish early that morning that was a pound bigger than this one. Mine was 7lbs and his was 8lbs. Good Luck and go big or go Home!

The first time I caught one of these monsters was almost 40 years ago at Mule Lake in MN. Scared the you-know-what out of me when we got it in the boat and it was thrashing around and had those big teeth. Congrats on your catch!

Legit walleye… We were just out fishing for some but we had to quit. There’s so much water coming down. I haven’t seen rain like this in a long time.

Nice Fish. We get some like that when we troll in Oswego Harbor with # 18 Rapalas. I haven’t done that in years. Your fish is about the same size as my biggest on Oneida Lake. It was 27 1/2 inches. We catch a lot of wallleye that average 18-21″, all good eaters. What lake are you fishing????

Hey Big D,
I know where Oneida is, my buddy Mike Weaver fishes and lives near there. I was fishing Bay of Quinte in Belleville, Ontario. Lots of big ones migrate into this area for the annual spawn. Alot of 18-20″ers here as well after the big ones leave.
